The Winona Health Center is staffed by experienced, caring registered nurses and licensed personnel (with standing orders) 24 hours a day, seven days a week. health care takes place primarily in Winona’s Health Center, or in the units, a staff cabin and on wilderness trip by counselors trained in first aid. We will notify you if your son spends the night at the Health Center or needs to be seen by a doctor. In cases where additional treatment is necessary campers are seen by medical personnel at North Bridgton Family Practice or at Bridgton Hospital (ten minutes away from camp). Central Maine Medical Center (Lewiston) and Maine Medical Center (Portland) are an hour away for acute cases. Campers are transported to medical appointments by counselors in Winona or personal vehicles.
If your son takes medication, ensure that the medication comes to camp with the proper instructions for use. All medications must be labeled and kept in the Health Center. Special requests for your son to carry medications may be discussed with the directors and nurses. Due to state regulations, we cannot accept homeopathic or similar treatments. Prescribed medication are administered by our Health Center staff or trained UAP (unlicensed assistive personnel) just before, or just after, each meal and also prior to bedtime as needed.
