Trips
Winona’s trip program has a variety of options for all units to choose from! Each camper unit has their own specific trip leader focusing on mountain and canoe trips which are age appropriate. The duration of the trips start with day long adventures and work up to an 8 – day Allagash Wilderness Waterway canoe trip for a group of Senior campers. The majority of Junior trips are day hikes and one night canoe trips close to Winona. As the boys get older the trip program provides both introductory shorter trips as well as longer multi-day trips. Intermediate and Senior campers also get to experience both Kayaking and Rock Climbing trips out of camp as part of the trips program.
The trips program at Winona explores areas throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Within an hour’s drive are numerous mountain trip opportunities in the Mahoosuc range of Maine and the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Junior Canoe trippers start with over nights on Moose Pond and quickly advance to try longer trips on well-known lakes around Maine. Mooselookmeguntic, Azicohos, Richardson, Flagstaff and Umbagog are just a few of the many areas all age groups at Winona explore each season.
The kayakers travel to both salt water and white water locations. From kayaking surfing at Popham Beach to the white water of Errol, New Hampshire and Kennebec River in Maine the kayakers hone their skills on a variety of paddling areas. The Senior age rock climbers are busy traveling to world renown climbing areas in Maine and New Hampshire (White Horse and Cathedral Ledges, Rumney) a few days each week. The climbers also look forward to a four day trip to climb in Acadia National Park each summer.
